The Cleveland team nipped the Chicago (AL) ballclub in 11 innings 5 to 4 at
Progressive Field in a hard fought contest.
 
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings.  Finally, Cleveland
prevailed in the 11th inning.  Delino Deshields banged out a single.
Deshields swiped second base.  Two outs later Jose Ramirez came up and he was
walked intentionally.  Carlos Santana followed next and he stroked a one-base
hit resulting in an exciting win for Cleveland and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  Chicago (AL) was out-hit by Cleveland, 14
hits to 11.  
 
James Karinchak(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. Evan Marshall(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief.
