First baseman Freddie Freeman ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Nationals
Park where the Atlanta club beat the Washington club 5 to 3.
Freeman had a good evening at the plate. He slapped a base-hit in the 1st
inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 5th inning
and hit a bases-empty home run in the 8th inning. Washington threatened in
the 9th but their rally came up short.
Sean Newcomb(5-6) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Mark Melancon gained credit for his 22nd save. The loss was charged to Max
Scherzer(9-3). Although losing the contest, he whiffed 9 batters in 6
innings.
Brian Snitker was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our evening - no doubt about it!'
